Question
Explain why sliding friction is slightly less than static friction.
Answer
As we know that, the friction is caused by the interlocking of irregularities or roughness in the two surfaces in contact. So, in the case of static friction the interlocking between the two objects is very strong, but in case of the sliding friction there is a less time of getting interlocking of the roughness of the surface with each other. So, the sliding friction is less than the static friction.
